Navigating Change Workshop
ONE-DAY (8 hours)*
You’re facing more change, and more quickly, than you’ve ever imagined. Learning how to facilitate values-based change is a critical component of missional leadership. Leading well at present requires understandings both of basic change theory and complex adaptation along with practical knowledge of how to employ both in parallel.
SESSION DETAILS
Session 1: Values-Based Transformation Many leaders make the mistake of viewing change as a transactional, results-driven undertaking. While such change can sometimes produce short-term gains, systemic/cultural change capable of facilitating long-term success requires transformation rooted in broad agreement on common values. We will learn how to discern and define such values and initiate change processes grounded in them.
Session 2: Contingency Planning & Risk Assessment Periods of low visibility call for systems (like congregations) to adapt rapidly in ways that facilitate long-term transformation. Understanding the true threats to both present and future success, or even survival, requires leaders to parse their enterprise correctly, assess actual risk, and obtain buy-in for an array of contingent responses. We'll learn how to unravel the "fear blob" that paralyzes many organizations when the future is uncertain and design maps that can get us to the "next."
Session 3: Becoming Adaptive Especially now, change can never be effectively implemented by one-time or even periodic processes. Today's most successful organizations focus more on being change-ready and highly adaptive than on moving from one platform to another. We will learn how to facilitate transformations from static or shifting systems to complex adaptive enterprises.
Session 4: Living into Tomorrow The present crisis offers little opportunity for lasting organizational change, but it affords tremendous possibility to lay the groundwork for future change when greater feedback and interaction become more available. Now is the time to till and plow in preparation for future planting, because there have never been times that were better opportunities for cultural resets than this. We will learn how to understand our present leadership context in order to lead into a future of promise and hope.
